"Growing Pain"

Well, I enjoyed PMX myself, and I think it did organize well enough comparing to many first year conventions. Afterall, some staffs have plenty of experiences from running Anime Expo before, but then, there're still lots of things that can be improving for the future.

As we all have seen, there were not many people walking around, although I heard the total is 4000 people, but I imagined this number included the ones from the concert. The actual number for the con is not so good as I asked the staffs, hopefully, PMX didn't lose money hosting this con. On the other hand, I know the dealers weren't too happy. The exhibit hall is huge, but it's such a waste if it only occupied a quarter of the size, not sure why PMX didn't put all the dealers in one of the hotel ball rooms. I guess then they still needed to use the space for hosting the wrestling ring and a few cars.

For the panels, they were just liked AX, decent enough with no major problems. Autograph sessions generally were okay, except the TM Revolution which the line was long and unorganized. The video rooms were mostly empty, obviously the lack of attendances definitely had a toll on them. The hotel concerts were cool, but not sure if the promoters were disappointed with only a small group of fans supporting.

As we all have seen, the cons basically have 2 groups of people going, J-pop/J-rock and anime fans. It may still take some effort and time to gel these two groups of people together to make PMX a big hit. We could tell many music fans only came here for the concerts, TM Revolution and PLC, and they're generally not into anime or other asian movies.

It's good that next year will be hosting on labor day weekend. I'm sure they'll get a lot more people next year. This year, it's just unfortunate that it hosted at the same time as Fanime Con and many students have final exams to prepare. PMX can also consider the christmas holiday, that period of time rarely has any con in the US, it's just a good break away from all those summer cons. Look at the winter's Comiket in Japan, it's a huge success in both summer and winter.

Overall, PMX did its best for the first year, and liked I said, it organized well enough comparing to many first year cons. Good job.
