"PMX07 Dates"
| |
PMX06 is wrapped up and in the record books now. My question is what people want for PMX07. I heard complaints about conflicting with Halloween parties (which nobody mentioned then we were picking the dates). Would moving up or back a week or two help? I heard people want three days instead of two, but our concern was being on work days. Do people actually want to take days off for PMX? What do you guys want? We're negotiating for 2007 and input on what fans desire would be greatly appreciated. Mike |

LAST EDITED ON Nov-06-06 AT 09:51 PM (PDT) Two or three dates, I personally am open to either. But whichever way, STAY AT THE LAX HILTON. It is probably one of the (if not THE) best venues for a convention I have ever been to. It was not too small or too overwhelming expansive for the convention's size (thank you so much for that ;_; seriously). Not only that, but everything was right there, located centrally, and you did not have to travel far by foot to reach the convention areas. |

Yeah I wouldn't mind it if it was a week or two before Halloween... cuz Halloween is my fav holiday, but this year I was too tired from PMX to do anything, haha. XD And yes, I most definitly would love for the con to be 3 days again! It's like this with any con I guess, but this time around I felt especially pressed for time at the con.. like the whole time I felt like me and my group were just running from one thing to another and trying to get ready/change for the occasion and still somehow squeeze in time to hang out with friends. XD; So I think maybe, somehow if it's 3 days again things would be possibly more spread out so it wasn't quite such a rush. As for anything else... I don't know.. the location this year was ok ( better than Long Beach XD; ) although passing that strip place on the way to Carl's Jr and Denny's was kind of disconcerting, haha. XD; But overall this year was really fun, I had a blast. ^^ |

Well, I just want to say that PMX was definately a great experience for us. Our group exhibited at the Artists Market area and we got to experience the expo from all angles. We were actually informed that the Artists Market area was almost not going to happen... I am hoping that since the turnout was so great, that there won't be any doubts about having the AM again next year. The location of the AM had a good flow of attendees so i don't think it would be a good idea to move the AM to another location, but my suggestion would be to provide better lighting to the area (especially since people are viewing and creating art on the spot). That might be too much to ask though. ??? As far as the date for the event goes... we don't mind that PMX happens the weekend before Halloween, but we understand how it can conflict with the festivities associated with that holiday. Moving PMX up the calendar a couple weeks probably would be better for everyone. We do, however, strongly, agree that 3 days would be a VERY GOOD IDEA for PMX. In our case, it makes paying for table space and membership/badges more worth while. Starting on a Friday and going through the weekend would probably be best. Mondays are always a bad idea to have as last days of an event. Thats all for now... ^_^ Thanks for the chance to give feedback.

LAST EDITED ON Nov-08-06 AT 04:27 PM (PDT) I don't mind when you decide to have PMX. As long as it's several weeks before or after AX. I'm surprised that no one has suggested Veteran's weekend. I say that if PMX wishes to keep the events short and organized then stick to 2 days. If they want to have a more Guest + Attendees connection and more concerts then 3 days is the ultimate choice. Just remember whether it's 2 or 3 days convention, in the end, the whiners and complainers will skip school/work to make it to PMX =) I think I mentioned on your myspace we should have PMX more than once a year =D Thanks for making it successful this year! |

Yeah, we were trying to pick new things like Asian Cinema that people might not know to download. Anime series seem to be fairly straightforward in terms of what people want and don't want, so there aren't many things people are dying to see. I'm thinking of including far more interactive events during the day for people to engage in. We did things like origami and airbending demos. I'd like to kick it up one additional level next year. But this thread is for dates, so I'll leave it at that. Mike |

LAST EDITED ON Nov-13-06 AT 04:57 PM (PDT) Well, I like the Halloween weekend in this year, but yeah, it may overlap with some halloween parties. The previous PMX have tried labor day and memorial day weekends, but those dates didn't seem to work well either, like overlapping with students' final exam dates or other school dates. Here're some of my wild ideas 12/31 & 1/1 -- yeah, countdown dance / concert party at PMX! Mid-November -- Same weekend as the Los Angeles Japan Expo (japanexpo.org), so if PMX can locate itself near the LA Convention Center. Basically, PMX can work with the Japan Expo together, the dealer room and other afternoon activities can happen there in the expo. Then people can go to the PMX concerts and dance parties right after at nights If PMX can work with Japan Expo, I think it'll be interesting, afterall, some events from PMX can overlap with Japan Expo. Also, fans can find a lot of stuffs to do during the afternoon in Japan Expo along with PMX's regular events (ex: panels) mixing in. One drawback is the location though...downtown LA...hmmm. The weekend before AX -- so it'll be late June. Since there're many fans from other CA cities or out of states are coming to AX, may as well hosting the PMX a weekend before. Afterall, some of the same crowds going to AX are the same going to PMX. Especially it's summer time, students are free from school, no more restriction from studying!! The only problem...too close to AX, some of the same PMX and AX staffers and volunteers cannot handle two cons that is one week apart. |

LAST EDITED ON Nov-17-06 AT 03:10 AM (PDT) >Here're some of my wild ideas >12/31 & 1/1 -- yeah, countdown dance / concert party at PMX! A possible problem with this is that many people, our staffers included, may not be around, due to visiting family and friends. But of course, if we have a big enough reason to hold PMX on this date, we would certainly give it a shot. XD >Mid-November -- Same weekend as the Los Angeles Japan Expo >(japanexpo.org), so if PMX can locate itself near the LA Convention >Center. Basically, PMX can work with the Japan Expo together, the >dealer room and other afternoon activities can happen there in the >expo. Also, fans can find a lot of stuffs to do during the afternoon >in Japan Expo along with PMX's regular events (ex: panels) mixing in. >One drawback is the location though...downtown LA...hmmm. The problem with this is that PMX is a showcase of different Asian popular culture and diversification. For now, we seem to be bringing in Japanese-based guests and programming, i.e., J-Pop and J-Rock bands, but our main goal has always been to expand beyond that to all Asian cultures, like artists from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea, etc. (If any of you remember for PMX04, we tried to bring in Silver Ash, a band from mainland China, but that didn't happen due to visa problems among other things.) Working with Japan Expo would be a good relationship, but in the grand scheme of things, it wouldn't work out in the long run as our vendors must also be as diverse as our guests and programming. We thought of the Los Angeles Convention Center as one of our locations, but there aren't many hotels that close to the LACC, though the City of Los Angeles may have plans to change that. Perhaps if and when that happens, we will consider that possibility again. >The weekend before AX -- so it'll be late June. Since there're many >fans from other CA cities or out of states are coming to AX, may as >well hosting the PMX a weekend before. The only problem...too close to AX, some of the same PMX >and AX staffers and volunteers cannot handle two cons that is one week >apart. Actually, the real problem is this: money. Most students generally don't have a lot of cash and would only save up to go to one event. Some dealers would find it cost-prohibitive and a logistical nightmare to plan for two events that close to each other. Both groups would rather go to a bigger event, unless the dates are far enough apart that they could recuperate and plan for another one. And PMX won't just be competing with AX - we would be competing with Comic-Con as well. Though this may seem like a weak reason, PMX is a small event compared to Comic-Con, which is something we don't want to take a chance on doing at this point until we build up our reputation. -------- "Nothing is good or bad but thinking makes it so." -- Shakespeare Buy a PMX t-shirt! http://PacificMediaExpo.com |

In my humble opinion, quality is over quantity, as long as there are fun and interesting programs, whether it is two days or three days doesn't matter to me. I think a convention in October and November is good for cosplayers that have heavy costumes, too. I really enjoyed the concerts in year 2006, though, so please keep up the good concerts. By the way, since it is "Pacific" media, I agree that it will be nice to invite artists outside of Japan, like Taiwan, Hong Kong, Korea...etc. I believe there are lots of good indies or commercial bands in these areas too ^_^ In fact, I would like to recommend two new bands from Taiwan, which I think are energetic and fun: Higher and CherryBoom! Mmm...The problem is that their sites are all in Chinese. "Higher" has a very unique Ancient Chinese Metal style music. They raise a flag when they perform. ^o^ The members are really nice too. Here is their official blog: http://www.higher.com.tw/ ...and youtube link to one of their MV: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HaJA8kAKP70 "CherryBoom" is an all girl band with energetic performance. I love their video "Dear Prince". You can find it on YouTube too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-FmYXj7WnK4 This link is probably the closest thing to their official site: http://www.umusic.com.tw/Main.aspx?dest=ArtistMain&SuperCatId=1&catID=1&sortID=&artist=571&page=1 If you can bring them to the U.S...whoa...My friends and I would really really look forward to PMX 2007. But I'm already looking forward to it. Hehe, keep up the good work! |
